Reading Workshop
My goal this year is to promote reading. By reading more, children will become better readers. By encouraging choice, I hope to develop life-long readers. Rather than telling a student what to read (when there are so many various interests and reading levels) I would rather guide your child to find genres, authors, and series that will hold their interest.
Students will be expected to independently read about twenty minutes every school night, or at least two hours per week. This is where I need your help! Take your child to the library, the book store, or offer suggestions of novels you loved as a child to continue to help him or her always have something to read! Make sure to let your child see you reading in order to model that reading is a lifelong activity.
Also, although I make recommendations of books I think would hold interest, please talk to your child about the books they choose, if you feel they are not ready to read the material, please voice that, and we will find something more suitable.
